Thanks for another brilliant show and great discussion. As a former student of literature who is now in ministry I was really interested to when I saw the topic for the show. One thing that struck me though was how quickly and easily we seem to move from talking about Christian fiction in general to the fantasy genre (partic stuff like Tolkein and Lewis etc). The strength of the genre is that it is well suited to symbolism and exploring 'big ideas' etc ...but that is also its big weakness. The narrative world of fantasy can be infused with all sorts of 'significance' but end up very far removed from our own mundane life. It feels like a literature shaped by a Reformed sensibility might want to explore the ordinary - to pick out in narrative the glory of God in the details of ordinary life in the way that we see in (for eg) post ref Dutch painting. ...I would love to read something by a Christian version of Carver or Chekov (..big ask?!).

Hey thanks for this one, I enjoyed it immensely. I'll be looking for Soulmancer (sp?) and Dark Faith.

I'm a bit of a "book nerd" myself (and software engineer, but no plans to quit and go to seminary!), here is my first effort. I'd love to contact Jeremiah offline and discuss book nerd stuff, Camden, maybe can you pass him my email address?

Also, the podcast mentioned Harry Potter and Twilight in the same sentence, I have to drop this great quote from Stephen King:

Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.

I enjoined listing to this weeks show. Jeremiah mentioned a book that helped explain the Lord of the Rings trilogy but I could not make it out the title. Can you help out?
