If you have a chance (re)check out CS Lewis’s Space Trilogy. He strikes a bull’s-eye on trans-humanism – though with a solidly mid-twentieth century flavor. Crossing the species barrier, immortality through technology, the fusing of science and religion, it has it all.
If you haven’t read them, “That Hideous Strength” is the culmination of the series. Warning: the first half of THS is tediously slow. Keep going, it will be worth it!
