That sounds reasonable. To be clear, I think the best theology should be ‘imported’, for obvious reasons, but also to help raise a generation of theologically informed leaders, even theologians. I’m all for it; why re-invent the wheel? At the same time, you know, those concerns I mentioned are legitimate, I think. So maybe we have to mind the manner of our presentation, but also the specific content: if the material draws attention to Scripture and not to itself, I think it qualifies as potentially helpful. One example: Bavinck. So much is rich and constructive, but there is a lot of grappling with historico-intellectual context in the dogmatics. Much of that is lost even on contemporary N. American readers, not to mention readers in other contexts. I doubt all of that material is worth the resources required to introduce the whole of the historico-intellectual context required for understanding what Bavinck is saying.
