Job 1:8 has God himself offering up Job to Satan. It is not a plot by Satan against Job, but God’s offering for his purposes. Ever wonder why Job repented in dust and ashes? There must have been something. Why would God offer up Job, and why would Job feel the need to repent? It surely wasn’t to demonstrate to future generations how we might suffer when we don’t deserve it. Skip ahead to 32:1 – So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. Ah Ha! The whole thing was a set up by God in order to bring Job into right relationship with God. Job had been trying to earn his salvation; he was self-righteous. It took all that suffering for Job to finally see God as God should be seen.
