With this program airing back in August I don’t check for new comments all that often. But I would love to be able to answer your questions. I don’t believe that this comments page is the best place so please email me at thorindwarf@hotmail.com and I we can discuss these specifics.
thanks
Rob

We go to a Presbytarian church, that isPCA. I am totally confused. WE left a church that left the Pca to be EPC, because the pastor, congregation, and elders felt it best. Please, explain to me what is theonomy? dispensationilism, difference in EPC and PCA? We have done some studying, and like R.C. Sproul. And we have also decided that we definitely believe in Calvinism, becaue we feel it is scriptural. The pastor at the church we left, actually said, in a sermon that mothers needed to teach their daughters to not use tampons! I was shocked. Then he said that wearing lipstick was a terrible thing to do, because of what it was meant to do. Needless to say, this pastor had a breakdown. What bothers me is he has now taken a position where he goes around counseling other pastors, and preaches in their place, giving them a break. I am sure this man loves God. I love him, and his wife. I consider them to be brothers and sisters in Christ. He left the PCA years ago. We left his church, when I asked him one day, ” How do you feel about the gift of speaking in toungues?” He replied, ” Well I do it before every sermon, but you cant hear me, unless you sit right next to me! Sorry! Wrong answer! That is not biblical at all. We left, and then found out that the church we attended were people who had left his church, years ago because he wanted to split from the PCA (original/NON-liberal) so he could pursue more “charismatic ideas, in his church. PLease help me. I am confused about what the EPC is and believes, and the PCA, and the OPCA? Can you give me an answer with some simple terms, keeping it simple? Thankyou, In His Love, Joni

But what Bavinck and others Covenant Theologians mean by those statements and what the Dispensationalist means by Replacement Theology are two very different things. Covenant Theology has one people of God, sometimes Israel is the visible manifestation of the people of God and sometimes it is the church but they are still part of the one people of God. Dipensationalism does not carry over this meaning when they are representing the Covenant view. Kim Riddalbarger put it best when he said that a better term would be fulfillment theology. If the Dispensationalist was using the term “replacement theology” and were representing the doctrine correctly I would have no problem with them using the term.
thanks
Rob

I have been listening to your series on Dispensationalism on Theology Simply Profound (Thanks to CTC). One of the episodes talks about Dispensationalists using the term “Replacement Theology” to describe an aspect of Reformed Theology. Your discussion seemed to point to not knowing where they would have gotten that notion from. Could it have been Herman Bavinck?
” In the New Testament, God’s people of Israel have been replaced by the church of Christ, which is now the “holy nation, the chosen race, the royal priesthood” of God. (Reformed Dogmatics, Abridged in One Volume, Ed. John Bolt, p. 596)

Hello Cris, thanks for the encouragement. I have heard the term probationary period talked about in the definition of a dispensation, so it can work although I was going with a more traditional definition but thanks it’s helpful. Yes GA was good, great to have met you.

Camden, et al., you are to be commended for generosity of spirit.

So to Rob & Bob, enjoyed this and will get myselfd to iTunes to subscribe and start loading my iPhone.

One suggestion re the definition of a dispensation – and maybe you get to it in other casts – it seems it would be easiest to define a dispensation as a probationary period, always a probationary period, that ends in failure and judgement. I think that could really help communicating the difference between (certain, or all) dispensations and the covenantal administrations from God that overlap with specific dispensations.

Just a idea.

Hey, Rob && Bob, it was also great to see you guys back in June at GA,

Prodigally,

Sorry that you were offended Alexander. I was just joking about the pokemon game. Our church has been amused that our sign is being used as a pokestop. But who knows what the Lord will do. We have hundreds of young people coming into our parking lot and taking pictures of our sign, perhaps even that will be used to bring them to worship on Sunday?

Is there no reverence left in the church today? “All things to all men”- seriously?

Shameful.
