“The highest level of ec-typal theology was the Theology of Union. And basically that referred to the incarnate Christ’s knowledge of God. In the one sense His theology was completely unique because He was the eternal Son of God in human flesh, and even though he becomes the pattern for our knowledge of God there’s an aspect of His communion with His Father that we will never quite reach. But because he represents perfect humanity then he also becomes the pattern for our knowledge of God and the highest level of creaturely knowledge…It was the Spirit dwelling in the incarnate Christ who not only united the two natures but abode with Christ in everything He did that constituted this special knowledge of God…The next step is the Beatific Vision”
