The historicity of Noah’s flood has been argued about for years; however, with recent scientific discoveries the event is now clearly non-historical, as numerous Internet debates with scientists testify. From my perspective, the most irrefutable evidence is the inevitability of death to those onboard caused by inadequate ventilation of heavier-than-oxygen gases (methane, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide) given off by the 15,000+ animals (Institute of Creation Research).

But of greater concern is your statement, “the arc is a type of Christ.” Based on the Genesis account, righteous Noah and his family spent more than a year in a ‘sealed box’ … slaves to keeping constricted / suffering animals fed / watered and the daily task of removing 12,000+ pounds of manure (again, ICR). How can this deplorable situation be a “type of Christ”?

Even as a myth the Noah story is absurd and unacceptable to the modern ear. Why would God put His righteous ones through such disgust, when later, he simply sent the angel of death at Passover? Also, the Noah outcome was totally ineffectual; Babel soon ensued.

In my opinion, we need to think about the ramifications of our words. Most modern Churches quietly overlook extreme statements in the Old Testament (stoning a child for disobedience, being one) and I think it is time we stopped being so obsessed with trying to find Christ everywhere, especially when is it is detrimental to preaching Paul’s version of Christ.
