19th December 2009

TV Series “Will County Boxing Gym: Meet the Boxers”

This new series will be a monthly, 30-minute production, featuring novice, amateur and professional boxers striving to become good fighters, not only in boxing, but in life. This pilot is produced by Valerie Ayertey at the Will County Boxing Gym with the help of Bolingbrook Community TV and is being distributed to local community access stations throughout Will County.

Stars include professional boxer Bobby Jaskierny, Joshua Zegar, Kassandra Ochoa, Juan Ortiz, and Charles Kozeluh. They will be trained along with others by professional boxers and coaches Joseph Awinongya, Billy “Boy” Thompson, Roy Smith, Donald Myart, and Maurice Holman- wrestling. These professionals share a common goal in giving our area youth a comfortable and safe place to go, off the streets, while learning what it takes to work hard and feel proud of their accomplishments. Working closely with some of the teachers and counselors is also a major part of what the trainers believe in as they are committed to teaching the kids that their education comes first. They believe that: ‘There is only one way to succeed and it includes sweat and sacrifice, and its time our youth learn both.’

During this pilot Illinois State Senator A.J. Wilhelmi, Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz-Voots, Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas and other local officials were present for an Open House reception. Since we opened our doors a few months ago, appearances from dignitaries, local officials, area school administrators, and community organization leaders, are not unusual. The positive response we have received has spread quickly among the community as we are now serving over 400 members. We hope to include these visits in our upcoming TV series.

Initially, the show will be done in three blocks:

Block #1 – Introduction of the boxers – clips from daily life struggles, triumphs and achievements, an overview of training days, and clips from sparring sessions.
Block #2 – Discussion on various topics with boxers and Guest Appearances.
Block #3 –Coaches Pit – a discussion and conclusion of boxer’s achievements and what they need to work on both physically and in their daily lives (if appropriate).

Praise God that He is making more people aware of this terrific resource and that you’re noticing a notable increase in visitors.

Looking forward to listening to the discussion on Rutherford.
