Taught by Rev. Robert Arendale, this course explores the life and ministry of the great patriarch Abraham in Genesis 12–25. The better we understand Abraham, the better we will understand our Bibles. In fact, the better we understand Abraham, the better we will understand the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Abraham is presented in Scripture as the father of the faithful, as an example of walking by faith in the promises of God, and as a type and picture of the coming King, the Lord Jesus. We survey the big-picture narrative of Abraham’s life, focusing on the theme of Abraham as a man of tent and altar, and drill deeper in certain episodes, mining the Scriptures for its rich truth. Moreover, being eminently practical, we often return to the question: “How does this passage grow me in faith and help me in the challenges of everyday life in the here and now?” This course is designed for all those who want to grow in love for their Savior and in understanding of God’s Word.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • understand the place of Abraham within redemptive history;
  • appreciate the theme of Abraham as a man of tent and altar; and
  • encourage others to see the promise-making and promise-keeping God of the covenant.

Total course duration: 4 hours, 6 minutes.
